Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19th, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor children that would be raised together eventually, learned very young how to overcome of difficulties by using her rich and vibrant imagination. Her songs were written before she could write or read. The guitar that she first received was presented to her when she turned eighteen. She started singing at an Knoxville Tenn station by the age of eleven. In the same year, she recorded her debut recording for Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. After she finished her high school, in 1964, she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) as well as Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner's syndicated tv show needed an additional singer around the time. Parton was offered the gig in 1967 signed to RCA Records in 1968 and became a member of with the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. In 1974, she resigned from The Wagoner's Show due to the popularity of her own songs such as Joshua Coats of Many Colors or Jolene was outstripping their joint releases.
