In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the most-streamed song that time, within just 6 months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music has not only brought attention back to the genre, but also to Latin music as a whole. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs in 2016, as opposed to two songs from 2015. At the peak of Despacito's success in 2017, 19 songs that were mainly made in Spanish hit at the very top of 100. The number grew to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito came out in the year 2017. Then, popular artists started collaborating with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny in the project MIA MIA (2018) as well as Madonna was a part of Maluma on Medellin. In 2020, a few Reggaeton musicians were expressing their displeasure with its direction toward mainstream. However, a younger generation Rauw Alejandro, wanted to maintain the development.
